Lead The Way Scholars Embark on Transformative HBCU Tour, Inspiring College Readiness and Purpose

From June 22–June 25, Lead The Way participants—Fatimata Lhom, Johniyah Briggs, Kadin Gaston, Trinity Mobley, J’Brien Gavin-Carter, Emija Barnett, and Carlene Gavin-Carter—took part in an immersive HBCU college tour designed to spark meaningful post-secondary focus through direct, firsthand exposure. During the trip, students explored a dynamic range of campuses, including Alabama State University, Clark Atlanta University, Fisk University, Georgia State University, Georgia Institute of Technology, Morehouse College, Spelman College, Tennessee State University, and Tuskegee University.

Each campus visit provided students with the opportunity to envision themselves in college environments, interact with diverse academic settings, and gain a deeper understanding of the pathways available to them after graduation. These experiences not only broadened their awareness of academic and career possibilities but also strengthened their confidence as they began mapping out their future goals with greater clarity and intention.

In addition to campus tours, participants visited the Educational Civil Rights Excursion/Legacy Museum, enriching their experience by connecting higher education to history, leadership, and social impact. This powerful combination of cultural insight and academic exploration deepened students’ sense of purpose and reinforced the importance of education as a tool for empowerment and change.

Overall, the experience created lasting momentum—fueling motivation, expanding perspectives, and inspiring each student to pursue higher education with renewed determination and vision.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Winston-Scott Enterprise LLC for their valued partnership and collaboration in making this impactful experience possible. We also gratefully acknowledge our parents for their unwavering support, dedication, and shared commitment to preparing our students for success in their post-secondary journeys.
