Groveport Madison High School Youth’s United States Citizenship Naturalization Ceremony

On Friday, September 25, Lead the Way Post-Secondary Advisor, Dr. Kerra supported Groveport Madison High School alum, Bambi Darboe as she participated in her United States Citizenship Naturalization Ceremony. Prior to the ceremony, Bambi, who was born in the West African nation of Gambia, surrendered her permanent residence card.

Held at the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services field office, she along with approximately 30 others, took the Oath of Allegiance demonstrating their loyalty to the United States. Participants ended the oath by attesting that they took the "obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; so help me God."

It was special to be invited and an honor to watch a youth who has moved continents, had to learn new customs and language, enroll and complete school move forward into this next chapter of her life. Bambi is currently working full-time for Walgreens, but now that she has her citizenship, will be enrolling in the Medical Assistant program at Eastland Fairfield Career Center. She and her family look forward to using this opportunity to spread her wings!
